The 3 Days Ngorongoro & Lake Manyara Safari with Trailark Tours and Safaris is a rewarding short safari circuit in northern Tanzania, perfectly designed for travelers who want to experience dramatic landscapes, abundant wildlife, and iconic conservation areas within a limited timeframe.

This safari combines two of Tanzania’s most celebrated destinations: Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Lake Manyara National Park. Each location offers a unique ecosystem, scenery, and wildlife viewing experience, making the journey both diverse and unforgettable.

Lake Manyara National Park lies beneath the dramatic cliffs of the Great Rift Valley escarpment and is known for its dense groundwater forest, open grassy floodplains, and alkaline lake that attracts thousands of birds. Wildlife sightings may include tree-climbing lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, baboons, and large flocks of flamingos that give the lake its famous pink hue.

Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and one of Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife areas. The crater floor supports a dense population of animals throughout the year, including lions, black rhinos, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, and many bird species, all living within a naturally enclosed ecosystem.

Together, these two destinations provide a balanced safari experience filled with scenic beauty, exceptional game viewing, and immersive nature encounters.

Day 1: Arusha – Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Estimated driving time: 4–5 hours (approximately 190 km)

After an early breakfast at your hotel in Arusha, a professional safari guide from Trailark Tours and Safaris will pick you up around 7:30–8:00 a.m. for a short safari briefing. During this briefing, you will receive a clear explanation of the journey ahead, safety information, and what to expect during your safari.

You will then depart Arusha in a comfortable 4x4 Land Cruiser, traveling west through scenic countryside, small villages, and rolling highlands toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, you will enjoy views of farmland, Maasai settlements, and volcanic landscapes. A lunch stop or picnic lunch will be provided en route, depending on timing.

Arrival at the Ngorongoro area is expected in the early to mid-afternoon. Upon arrival, you will enjoy a game drive around the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, allowing you to observe wildlife roaming the crater rim and surrounding plains. This introductory game drive offers chances to see buffaloes, antelopes, zebras, and birds while taking in panoramic views of the crater below.

Later in the afternoon, you will proceed to your lodge for check-in. After settling into your room, you will enjoy dinner at the lodge, followed by an overnight stay surrounded by the cool highland air and natural beauty of Ngorongoro.

Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater – Lake Manyara National Park

Estimated driving time: 3–4 hours total

The day begins early with breakfast at the lodge, usually around 6:00–6:30 a.m., preparing you for a full and exciting day of wildlife exploration. Shortly after breakfast, you will descend 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive on the crater floor.

The game drive inside the crater lasts approximately 4–5 hours, during which you will explore grasslands, acacia woodlands, swamps, and soda lakes. This area offers some of the best wildlife viewing in Africa, with excellent chances to see lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, and, with luck, the rare black rhino. The enclosed nature of the crater allows animals to be seen at close range, making it ideal for photography and observation.

Around midday, you will enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated picnic site inside or near the crater, often close to a hippo pool where you can safely observe these massive animals from a distance.

After lunch, you will ascend from the crater and begin the drive toward Lake Manyara National Park. The journey takes approximately 2–3 hours, passing through scenic landscapes and rural communities. Upon arrival at Lake Manyara in the late afternoon, you will check in to your lodge.

The remainder of the evening is spent relaxing at the lodge, enjoying dinner, and resting overnight in preparation for the next day’s activities.

Day 3: Lake Manyara National Park – Arusha

Estimated driving time: 2–3 hours

After breakfast at the lodge, you will check out and proceed directly into Lake Manyara National Park for a morning game drive lasting approximately 3–4 hours.

During this game drive, you will explore the park’s diverse habitats, including dense forest, open savannah, wetlands, and the lakeshore. Your guide will help you spot wildlife such as elephants moving through the forest, giraffes feeding on acacia trees, buffaloes grazing in open areas, hippos wallowing in the water, and numerous bird species along the lake. Lake Manyara is especially famous for its tree-climbing lions, which may be seen resting on branches during the cooler hours of the day.

Late in the morning, you will exit the park and begin the return journey to Arusha, arriving in the early to mid-afternoon. Upon arrival, you will be dropped off at your hotel or another agreed location, marking the end of your safari with Trailark Tours and Safaris.
